The Bored Knight

Today we started with our hands tied behind our backs! To get our teachers to untie us, we had to select a picture from our prints from yesterday, describe it to our teachers who put it into a sequence, and then tell a story, one sentence at a time, based on the sequence of pictures we'd created as a class. It was hard, but we got the hang of it after some practice. We realized that our story had some flaws, like having random events with no reason for them or not connecting one action to another. We also used "then he..." too many times and realized that our character's goal was simply to not be bored, which may not be a strong enough goal for a reader to care about. This exercise was a good chance for us to learn from our mistakes so that we could create stronger stories in the afternoon. Here is our story with some of the pictures we selected.

The Bored Knight (working title)

The knight standing with the sword facing down behind the Spanish store looked at the ground because he was bored.

Then he decided to take his shoes off and found that his nails were painted.

The evil camper Jayden looked at the feet and said “I’m gonna mess them up.” But then suddenly Jayden turned into a yellow lily bush because he ate some mercury. Then the knight went walking into an oasis.

Then the knight got bored of the oasis and went back to the Spanish store. Then the knight was crowned king even though he was bored, so he said “everyone is terrible, so I think I’m gonna go get my brain tattooed, a spleen transplant, and listen to bad music.” Then he found a treasure map and began searching for the treasure. He followed the trail of popcorn leading to a magical tree that someone had clearly carved an “x” onto and well, x marks the spot, so he started digging.

He finally finished and what he found were some pink shoes, so he started walking to stores and found a magazine that said “dream house” on it.

After he got a good look at the dream magazine, he thought to take a walk to a restaurant called Gaslamp Garage. Then when he was done eating, he got on the trolley and went to Santee. After he got off the trolley, he was walking around and saw a very strange looking person.  They became friends and the man told the king that Santee was really boring so they decided to go back to the Gaslamp. They started picking flowers and realized that one of them was Jayden! They put him in a pot and took him back to the king's castle so he could keep an eye on the evil Jayden forever and make sure he never hurt anyone again.

** There are alternate endings to this story. Ask each of us for our personal ending!
